Mamak Asian Street Food

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Location: Orlando, Florida.

Parking:  Street.

Service: It is ok. Very standard service. The waiter was friendly.

Food quality: It is a Malaysian restaurant. The portions are large and the taste of the food is good. We ordered a BBQ pork gwa bao (2 fluffy Asian baos, topped with hoisin sauce, cilantro, lettuce, cucumbers, and scallions, with pork.) I love this appetizer because it is a little bit sweet. Additionally, we ordered a delicious roti canai (a soft bread served with curry sauce). For the main courses, we ordered hokkien char mee (a Singapore’s signature dish-this plate is prepared with wok-fried egg noodles, shrimp, chicken, BBQ roast pork, yow choy, napa, carrots, and scallions, stewed in brown gravy, topped with fried shallots and scallions). It was so delicious that you can taste all the flavors. The brown gravy is not very strong and tastes good.  Maggi goreng (ramen noodles with shrimp, chicken, eggs, napa, onions, carrots, bean sprouts, and scallions, wok-fried in a brown sauce, topped with fried shallots) was my favorite dish. The brown sauce is very tasty, I love it! Another plate that we tried was seafood haw fun (Singapore’s most popular, bed of wok-fried rice noodles, coated in a scrambled egg gravy with shrimp, calamari, fish cake, straw mushrooms, carrots, baby corn and yow choy, topped with fried shallots and scallions). It is like a soup but I little bit more creamy. I don’t like the scrambled egg gravy because the flavor is so strong. Our last dish was a mamak nasi goreng (traditional fried rice, wok-fried with shrimp, chicken, eggs, and onions, topped with fried shallots and scallions), a great dish for kids because the rice taste really good and my nephew loved it.

Price: We consider that their prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. We ordered 2 appetizers, 4 courses, and 4 soda for $78.28 plus tip.

Atmosphere: Quiet environment and normal decoration. This is not a fancy restaurant.

Recommendation: The menu has a lot of options and some of the plates are Americanized, so don’t worry if you are afraid to try something new.
