Tybee Island Light Station

This light station had guided sailors to safety along the Savannah River for more than 285 years. Been rebuilt many times, it currently has 178 steps.

For those who love to admire a fabulous view from the top, this lighthouse is magnificent to get a full view of Tybee Island beach and some part of the city.

What should you know?

Tybee Island Light station has its own parking lot (it is not very big though) however there is another parking lot with parking meters across the street. You have to buy a ticket. Tickets include admission to the Light Station, the Tybee Raised Cottage, and the Tybee Museum in Battery Garland. The price of tickets vary according to age and number of people (maximum price $10).  There are certain safety rules that you should know such as requiring shirts and shoes and covering bathing suits. Backpacks, drinks (except water), food, gum, pets, smoking/vaping, tripods (any size), monopods, beach towels, extra large purses or beach bags, large rigid camera bags, and weapons are not allowed on the site.

Recommendations

Depending on the time of the year, this place can become very crowded. I recommend visiting the lighthouse as soon as they open. The lighthouse does not have air conditioning inside, wear something cool if you go in the hot season. If you want to enjoy a delicious meal around the area, I recommend you visit The Crab Shack.
